About Us

About Us

You are created in the image of God, designed to spend eternity with Him. What will you do with this temporary life on earth that God has given you?

If you hunger to know God and His people, there is no better place to be than Main Street.  For more than 100 years, we have been in the heart of Springfield worshiping God and serving Him and the Springfield community.

God is doing great things here. Come and see!

Vision

The shepherds have given us the following Vision Statement to serve as a filter for determining everything we do as a congregation.

In response to God’s love we submit the following:
We exist to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. As those who have been made right before God through the death and resurrection of His son, our singular purpose is to be ambassadors for Christ.

  1. We are committed to being an authentic community of faith that embodies the good news of Jesus wherever we go, especially in the neighborhoods in which we live.
  2. We are committed to the infallible Scriptures that produce a Christ-centered faith. This faith leads us to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength, and others as ourselves.

Church History

In September of 1911 brother T. W. Phillips held a gospel meeting in Springfield.  At the close of the meeting, ninteen people came together desiring to work and worship together.  For a short time the small group met in a rental hall, but in 1912 they purchased the old Baptist meeting house on North Main Street.

With congregations such as Green Street, Joelton, Coopertown and Bethel supplying preaching and encouragement the young congregation began to grow.  By 1930 the church at Main Street was able to assist in the establishment of other congregations .  Churches were born at Cedar Hill, Stroudsville, White House, Adams, Ridgetop and Big Rock.  In 1939 brother J.B. Gaither became the first of only 12 full time evangelists in Main Street’s 100 year history.

Main Street has a great history of supporting missionaries all around the world including Zambia, New Zealand, Brazil, Italy, India, the Ukraine, Nicaragua and Brazil.  We also work with aid groups such as Healing Hands International, and Disaster Relief.
